We really really really love Spoonflower, an online source for custom-made fabric.
The Spoonflower team recently created a fun pack to welcome new members to their creative community. The pack includes a new book of print and pattern design from Heather Ross, a custom teal pencil, a Spoonflower gift certificate, and this Scout Book!

Design Week Portland…GO!

Design Week Portland Scout Book Make Your Own Pocket Notebook

We love Portland, and we love design. And that’s why we are so excited to take part in the inaugural Design Week Portland, a celebration of Portland’s creative community that kicks off tomorrow.

In addition to a wide selection of lectures, film screenings and workshops, Design Week Portland will feature two days of open studios, at which these Scout Books will be available. By opening their doors to the public for the afternoon, Portland’s lively collection of creative people will be able to share their workspaces and creative processes with members of the design community and with Portland at large.

The books boast the branding and identity work created by Lizy Gershenzon and Travis Kochel, aka Scribble Tone, and were lovingly concepted and designed by Kate Giambroni and Julianna Johnson of Bologna Sandwich.

The Scout Books are informative, but they’re also fun. Bologna Sandwich explained a bit of the thinking that went into the process of designing the books. “One thing we love about design is that we’re constantly challenged to come up with something unique while working within an established structure… We wanted it to be interactive and allow people to document their own DWP adventure.”

Here in Portland, we’ve got a lot going on. We’ve got retail shops, boutique design studios, printmaking shops and leather ateliers. We’ve got big-wig advertising agencies, interactive studios, branding firms and textile production shops. “There is so much fun to be had, and so many awesome people who make up our small community,” Bologna Sandwich explained.

We agree. Here’s to celebrating to all of the awesome people that make up the Portland design community! We’ll see you all this week.
